Canceled: Take a kid hiking – Leatherwood Wilderness

Canceled: Take a kid hiking – Leatherwood Wilderness

** Canceled **

Date: April 18 2020. 9:30AM
Type: Day hike
Location: Leatherwood Wilderness, the ‘Siphon’ trail that will take us along a fantastic bluff line, down to Middle Creek, and on to the banks of the Buffalo River.
Distance of hike: approximately 5 miles

Difficulty of hike: moderate due to undulating terrain

Meeting Time: 9:30 a.m.

Meeting Place*: Intersection of Rand Road and Highway 341 (Push Mountain Road). The intersection is located at the southeast corner of Leatherwood Wilderness which is about 2.2 miles north of the Highway 14 and Highway 341 intersection or about 22.4 miles north of the intersection of Highway 201 and Highway 341 all in Baxter County, Arkansas.

Plan: Those who prefer not to drive their vehicle west about 6.3 miles down Rand Road to where the hike will commence can park their vehicles at our meeting point and ride along with someone. Otherwise, everyone is welcome to drive down to the starting point. There is a map attached showing our starting point. The trail will take us to the ‘siphon,’ along bluff lines overlooking the vast expanse of Leatherwood Wilderness, and on to the banks of the Buffalo River. There will be some creek crossings, so packing a pair of water shoes is recommended.

Contact: If you plan on making this hike, please contact Phil Brown prior to the hike so he will know who all will be on the hike and so he can let you know if the hike is postponed due to weather — email: brown.philip9@gmail.com
