Bear Safety
Please use bear safety precautions while on the trails and camping. As of this posting on 10/6/25, Arkansas has had 2 people killed in bear attacks in the last three weeks, and a non-fatal attack happened last weekend on the OHT- two backpackers camping at Salt Fork Creek (2 miles East of White Rock Mtn) had to defend themselves the entire night against an aggressive black bear. Remember to keep a clean camp; don’t burn food scraps or trash in your fire ring or grill; do not store food, trash, clothes worn when cooking, or toiletries in your tent; cook downwind and as far from your tent as possible; and set up backcountry camps away from dense cover and natural food sources.
