Fall 2026 OHTA East Basecamp
Due to the anticipated rainfall on Friday and the bridge closure at Fort Douglas, we are making some last-minute changes to the East basecamp:
- We are cancelling work on Friday.
- The location is moving to Haw Creek Falls Campground. USFS is setting aside several campsites for us to use. Free camping will be available Friday night and Saturday night.
- We will not be serving dinner on Friday. OHTA will provide BREAKFAST (Sat, Sun), LUNCH (Sat, Sun), and DINNER (Sat) for all participants. (If you have dietary restrictions, please bring your own food as we will not be able to accommodate.) Water, soda, and tea will be available. Bring your own adult beverages.
- There will be some showers available.
- There is no potable water available at the campground. We will have some potable water available, but we would suggest bringing some if you can.
The Fall 2026 East Basecamp will be held on the Barton’s private property (35°46’11.9″N 92°59’22.6″W) on October 2, 3, and 4. (Please note that this is a new location.) Free camping will be available starting Thursday evening. Commuting each day is also an option for some.
If you plan to camp, please bring your camping gear. There is some indoor space available for sleeping in a bunk house and cabin, but it is very limited. Please send an email to brentu@ozarkhighlandstrail.com to inquire about sleeping in the bunk house or cabin. Shower space is also very limited, but the property is next to Richland Creek, so you will be able to wash off in the creek. Cell service is limited/non-existent, but wifi will be available.
OHTA will provide BREAKFAST (Fri, Sat, Sun), LUNCH (Fri, Sat, Sun), and DINNER (Fri, Sat) for all participants. (If you have dietary restrictions, please bring your own food as we will not be able to accommodate.) Water, soda, and tea will be available. Bring your own adult beverages.
Hard hats, safety gear, and maintenance implements will be provided. Members and nonmembers are welcome. Please remember to bring your lawn chairs because after the workday, base camp becomes a social event filled with conversation, giveaways, and plenty of laughter while sitting around the fire with people who enjoy similar things.
We need individuals to help in many ways both in camp and on the trail. On the trail, volunteers will be needed to serve as loppers, sawyers, trimmers, and swampers (aka, sawyer helpers). Or, if you’d prefer to stay at camp and help out there, you can help with cooking, cleaning, picking up around camp, and/or with shuttling volunteers to various locations on the OHT. Whatever you choose to do, it will be very greatly appreciated!
Each day of trail work will begin with a meeting at 8:30 a.m. so volunteers can be informed of their assigned locations on the trail and what their tasks will entail.
If you plan on attending, please sign up ASAP using the link below to help with our planning.
