Protecting your trail since 1981
The Ozark Highlands Trail Association (OHTA) is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit all-volunteer organization that was founded in 1981 to build, maintain, and enjoy the Ozark Highlands Trail (OHT). When complete, the OHT will stretch 320 miles across northern Arkansas from Lake Fort Smith State Park to Lake Norfork – where it will connect to the Ozark Trail in Missouri.
Every year, dozens of people contribute thousands of hours to building and maintaining the Ozark Highlands Trail! Our volunteers make generous contributions of their time and resources to help preserve the trail for the enjoyment of future generations.

Featured in National Geographic Magazine, The Guardian, and Backpacker Magazine, the OHT offers 270 miles of hiking and backpacking across the most rugged and scenic terrain in the region.

We are dedicated to building and maintaining the Ozark Highlands Trail as well as creating educational and interactive experiences that brings the trail to everyone.

There are many fun ways to get involved and support trail stewardship and outdoor recreation in the area. Our members, volunteers, and trail crews, all make a difference by contributing to the Ozark Highlands Trail Association.
