White Rock Base Camp

White Rock Base Camp

Date: Sep 26-30 2018
Type: Maintenance & training
Location: White Rock Mountain Recreation Area is West of Cass, North
of Fern, and East of Mountainburg, Arkansas.
Description: White Rock Base Camp is our hiking season kick-off event to
introduce folks to the adventure that is trail maintenance.  If you’ve ever
had an interest in trail maintenance, this is your opportunity to learn
alongside experienced trail maintainers, meet new people who also share a
hiking/backpacking passion, and enjoy fantastic fellowship along the way.
Camp opens Wednesday evening, September 26.  We will serve a
basic supper.  Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be spent doing trail
maintenance on surrounding trails.  Sunday morning, we will clear the White
Rock Loop Trail, then everyone can head home.  Feel free to come for just a
day or the whole thing.

Where is it?    White Rock Mountain Recreation Area is West of Cass, North
of Fern, and East of Mountainburg, Arkansas.

What are the accommodations?   We will be staying in the Lodge on White
Rock.  The Lodge will sleep about 20 in bunk-house style accommodations (a
bunch of bunk beds in multiple rooms).  If you prefer, you can rent your own
cabin or camp in the tent camping area.  We will provide breakfast and
supper in the Lodge and have fixings for lunch for you to prepare and take
with you on the trail every day.  There are showers in the Lodge.  We also
provide plenty of beverages of both the “adult” and “non-adult” kind.

Does it cost anything?   Nothing other than your cost of getting there, if
you rent a cabin or sleep in the campground, and any food or drink you bring
yourself.  You must be an OHTA member to attend.

What do I bring?    You need to bring appropriate clothing (sturdy shoes or
boots, no sandals, long pants, shirt, hat, rain gear, etc.); sheets or a
sleeping bag, a pillow if you want, and your personal hygiene items & towel.
Also bring a day pack and water bottles to carry your lunch, water and gear
for the day on the trail.  If you prefer your own gloves, you can bring
them.

We will supply all tools, gloves, hard hats, PPE, food, drink, plates,
bowls, cups, silverware, bunks and a roof over your head.

How do I register and/or get more information?   You must register in
advance so we can appropriately plan the food and bunk-house space.  Send an
email to ohtmaintenance@gmail.com to register or to request additional information.
