25 Nov BRT/OHT Maintenance
Date: Dec 15 2018, 9 AM – dusk?
Type: Maintenance
Location: BRT/OHT between Red Bluff and South Maumee Roads
Description: Clear a new and relatively unknown part of the trail between Red Bluff and South Maumee Roads. The target area is west (upstream) of the property recently acquired by the Buffalo River Foundation.
We’ll meet at the Red Bluff Road trail head (36.0162,-92.6571) north of Marshall by 9 AM. There are basically 2 ways to get there:
- Zack Road (not Zack Ridge Road) north from Marshall to Red Bluff Road then continue north.
- Trout Farm Road west from AR-27 to Red Bluff Road, then north.
We’ll be hiking downstream about 3.7 miles and back. The work will consist of blazing, lopping, pruning, and removing debris. It’s the furthest 1.7 miles that we’re after – the first 2 miles need little if any attention. There are 7-10 trees that require a chainsaw and several smaller ones that could be cut as well if certified sawyers are available.
Bring the usual tools, work gloves, safety equipment, water, and snacks. We’ll cross Rocky Creek so wading shoes are recommended. Camping is available at Tyler Bend, South Maumee, and Buffalo Point. Contact Michael Reed at mereed@runbox.com for more information or to let him know you’ll be there.
