Hike North Sylamore Creek Trail – Cole Fork Rd to Barkshed

Date: Oct 12 2019, 9:30 AM
Type: Day Hike
Location: Cole Fork Rd to Barkshed
Description: Trail: North Sylamore Creek Trail — section running from Cole Fork Rd. primitive trail head to just north of Barkshed Recreation Area. For those who have never hiked the North Sylamore Creek Trail, it is one of the most scenic trails in Arkansas. Of course, with the leaves on, some of the
views will be obscured. Nonetheless, there will be plenty of beauty to enjoy. All ages are welcome, so we hope to see you there!

Distance of hike: 4.5 miles (approximately)

Difficulty of hike: moderate due to several elevation gains and losses

Meeting Time: 9:30 a.m.

Meeting place: Intersection of Hwy. 341 (Push Mountain Rd.) and Barkshed Rd. Unless changes have occurred recently, Barkshed Rd. is not marked.

To get there from Hwy. 14, turn north at the intersection of Hwy. 14 and Hwy. 341 and travel approximately 8.3 miles.

To get there from Hwy. 201, turn south at the intersection of Hwy. 201 and Hwy. 341 and travel approximately 14.75 miles.

Plan: From the intersection of Hwy 341 and Barkshed Rd., we will caravan to the Cole Fork Rd. primitive trail head. From there, we will shuttle along Barkshed Rd. to the east and then head south on an old road. From where we park, we will bushwhack (moderate difficulty of about 1/4 mile) down to where we will intersect the North Sylamore Creek Trail just to the north of Barkshed Recreation Area.
