01 Mar Williams Woods has been sold
Big news for the OHTA is that the Williams Woods property has been sold. This is a 563-acre tract in Madison County that OHTA was given in 1993 in order to protect its natural early mature forest.
The membership decided in 2008 to sell the property. Following that decisive directive, we expended several years of work and a considerable amount of money on surveys and legal work. This extended effort culminated in 2014 with a perpetual conservation easement granted to a Land Trust Alliance certified conservation land trust. Annual and other inspections of the property ensure compliance with the tree and other conservation values protections as required in the easement documents.
The property was readied for sale and put on the market in March 2016, and eventually sold on February 1 of this year.
The proceeds should ensure we have adequate funds for future trail building and maintenance – our foremost mission.
